Matthew Garrett was working on Floor 7 of The Address Hotel, in Dubai, entertaining at the owner Mohamed Alabbar’s New Years Eve party, when the building caught fire.

Matthew writes:

At 9.30pm guests were looking up at a fire. I left via the staircase immediately amazed others weren’t doing the same. Saying they had only just arrived! I was outside by 9.31. Just 2 minutes later half the building was on fire!

The images that he posted on his Facebook account are terrifying. The authorities are still trying to find out what caused the huge fire to break out which engulfed the 63-storey luxury hotel.

Firefighters managed to subdue the blaze however it is being reported that parts of the hotel are still smouldering even now. It is believed that no one has been killed, although 16 people were hurt, including one person who had a heart attack.

At Magic Daily, we are very pleased to hear that Matthew got out safely, if a bit shaken.

You can see the fire starting as captured by Warren Chang on his phone:

This is the full video of the fire from my vantage point at the Address Hotel Downtown. Our table was at the outside terrace at Zeta Lounge and we turned around to see that the fire had just started and was quickly running up the facade of the hotel.
