On Tuesday 27th September six competitors battled it out to become The British Magical Society Close-Up Champion 2016. Donald Bevan once again organised and hosted the event with Derek Robbins time-keeping. Judges this year were, past president and former BMS secretary, Paul Cadley and long time member Norman Smith.

The competitors, Nemed Phoenix, Jay Adkins, Andy Kirk, George Rowley, Steve Collins and Bob King performed their routines three times to three different tables which were set out in a typical table hopping style. Each competitor had to perform for between 8 – 12 minutes, losing points for over or under running—thankfully no one did. After just over an hour of great magical entertainment a break was taken and the judges retired to make their decisions.

And the winner was named as Nemed Phoenix. Nemed is making this Trophy his own having already won it twice before. Nemed was presented the Ray Bradbury Trophy by our president, Jay Adkins. The Trophy will now be engraved and then officially presented at the BMS Presidential Dinner on Saturday, 11th March 2017 (Put that in your diary – everyone welcome).

Congratulations to Nemed who now goes on to represent the BMS in the “Midlands Champion of Champions” competition in 2017 at The Leamington Spa Day of Magic.

Thanks to everyone who attended the evening, all the competitors and everyone who helped make the night a success.
